Contribution of Slovenia to the development of the Vascular access and this field is very strong, and it thus comes as no surprise that the 10th edition of VAS is being organized in Ljubljana.
Around 450 delegates from Europe, USA, Canada and Asia gathered at the Vascular Access Society Congress (VAS) 2017 from 5th to 8th April 2017 in Ljubljana, at the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana. This year marked an important jubilee, the 10th congress of the VAS congress.
The Vascular Access Society is a multidisciplinary international association of experts for vascular access – nephrologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, dialysis nurses and technicians, angiologists, etc. Their objectives are to raise interest in the field of hemodialysis vascular access, to promote and conduct basic and clinical research and to organize congresses, meetings and courses.
The contribution of Slovenia and the Clinical Department of Nephrology UKC Ljubljana to the development of the profession in this field is substantial; Prof. Marko Malovrh, MD, PhD, developed a method of inspecting arteries by ultrasound prior to surgery almost 20 years ago, a globally recognized method. The work of other local experts in this field has also contributed significantly to the development of these activities and Slovenia’s visible role in the world in this field, so it is no coincidence that the 10th anniversary congress is being organized in Ljubljana.
VAS organizes an international congress every two years in a European country and every year at least one vascular access course. The previous congresses were held in Barcelona, Prague, Istanbul, Rome, Nice, etc. The organizer chose Ljubljana as the 2017 destination based on the friendliness and charm of the Slovenian capital, a city of rich historical and cultural heritage and great location in between the main European capitals, the additional factor was value for money. The last named is no surprise, since the Slovenian congress industry has been growing actively, promoting the country and their venues with their remarkable professional services and providing some of best European congress services.
