Maribor Salutes Good Sportsmanship Shown at the Medigames

At the begining of June Maribor hosted the 37th World Medical and Health games, a gathering for health professionals from all over Europe that allows them to compete in various sports in a congenial and fun atmosphere. The International Sports Medicine Symposium highlighting the prevention of doping and nutrition for athletes is also taking place today in Hotel Habakuk, in Maribor.

The Austrian city of Wels, last year’s host of the Medigames, passed the Olympic torch to Maribor. Fair play and a friendly spirit took over the Slovenian city that was due to the excellent location in the embrace of the green Pohorje Mountains on one side and the picturesque wine-growing hills on the other, chosen as the host destination. Because of the high quality sports facilities and good hotel rates, accommodation for guests has been provided by Terme Maribor in different hotel categories.

This international sports competition with a professional organization by Corporate Sport organization from France started on the 28th of May and will end on the 4th of June 2016. The 8 day event is an opportunity for over 2.000 participants from 40 countries to in 5 age categories try out their Olympic spirit in 24 different sport disciplines; from the popular athletics, football, beach-volley, to more exclusive sports like power lifting and clay pigeon shooting.

The games are open to general practitioners, specialists, surgeons, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, nurses, surgeons and sport lovers from any other health profession. Each participant is welcome to attend the games with other family members and thus next to competing also has the opportunity to extend the family vacation and explore the second largest city of Slovenia.

Also taking place during the 37th World Medical and Health Games is the International Sports Medicine Symposium. It is open to all participants of the Games and is chaired by Dr. André Monroche (France) and co-chaired by Ms. Liliane Laplaine-Montheard, founder of WMHG. The one-day symposium is held in Hotel Habakuk that is known for hosting Health and medical events.
