Grand Hotel Toplice Receives the Safehotel-Star International Certification

Generating 10% of the EU’s GDP and ensuring more than nine million jobs, tourism is the most significant industry in Europe. The safety of guests and employees is thus of great importance.

In this light, the Fire Safety Accommodation Conference, the largest international conference on fire safety in European hotels and other accommodation facilities, took place. The conference, with 90–100 participants, was held between 31 March and 1 April 2016 in Bled, in Grand Hotel Toplice*****. On this occasion, the hotel received the Safehotel-Star international fire safety certification, thus becoming the second hotel in Slovenia to be awarded with this certification.

Together with other organisers and partners of the two-day conference, the Slovenian Fire Protection Association prepared a dynamic and interesting programme. Various first-class lecturers presented the European requirements and guidelines for fire safety in tourist accommodation facilities. The content-rich programme included a lecture by Ms. Angela Hills, representative of ABTA – The Travel Association (UK) / Federation of Tour Operators, entitled “Safety Matters – A Travel Industry Perspective”.

The conference was co-organised by representatives of non-governmental organisations, educational institutions, fire services, tourism workers, relevant ministries, and companies. The event also included a demonstration of firefighter intervention in the event of a fire in Grand Hotel Toplice***** and a presentation of the importance of safety in tourism.
