Noticable growth in traffic for Aerodrom Ljubljana

Aerodrom Ljubljana records 7.6 % growth in passenger numbers in the first five months of the year. The sharpest increase was in May, with passenger numbers up 19.6 % on the same period last year. Polish airline LOT announces the introduction of a scheduled service to Warsaw.

In the first five months of this year the airport handled 476,984 passengers on scheduled and charter flights, 7.6 % more than in the same period last year, and recorded 8,685 aircraft movements, or 1.5 % fewer than in the same period last year. The fall in the number of aircraft movements is the result of a change in the type of aircraft used, in favor of larger (and heavier) aircraft, while passenger load factor has also improved.

The sharpest increase was in May, when 128,411 passengers passed through the airport. This figure represents an increase of 19.6 % in comparison to May 2014. During the first seven months, Ljubljana welcomed 798.297 travellers, up 11 % on the same period in 2014. Furthermore, the airport recorded a net profit of 600.000 Euros and 16 million Euros in revenue over the first half of the year. As a result, its net profit increased by 84.000 Euros compared to 2014. However, Ljubljana Airport expects the growth in traffic to continue over the summer.

Polish airline LOT arrives in spring 2016

With the 2015 summer timetable, valid until 24 October, Ljubljana Airport is connected to more destinations than last year. With more than 160 scheduled flights a week, passengers can fly directly to 27 destinations served by 9 scheduled carriers.

Swiss International Air Lines has been operating daily flights to Zurich since March. In April flag carrier Adria Airways introduced new services to Berlin and Stockholm. Turkish Airlines has added 3 more flights to its existing 7 and now flies to Istanbul 10 times a week. Finnair has returned to Brnik for the summer season with four flights a week to Helsinki. Also worth mentioning is Montenegro Airlines, which has added a 6th weekly flight to Podgorica.

In spring 2016 the existing scheduled carriers will be joined by the Polish airline LOT, which announced a service between Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport and Warsaw in June this year.

10 carriers are operating summer charter flights to 23 tourist destinations. The Greek islands are still among the most popular holiday destinations, with the largest number of chartered flights operated by Slovenia’s own Adria Airways.

“If we were not in a position to say that the airport was competitive with others in the region a few years ago, this is definitely not the case today”, Ljubljana Airport said in a statement.
