Green Meeting Initiatives from Slovenia

06.07.2011
Increasingly, the Slovenian meeting and incentive providers focus on implementation of environmentally friendly business practices and development of innovative green products and services. Among those green meeting and incentive initiatives to follow are:

Bees on the Roof of Slovenia’s Main Congress Centre

Three families of Carniola bees are buzzing in their beehives on one of the terraces of Cankarjev dom’s variegated roof. Located in the very centre of Ljubljana, the country’s capital city, Cankarjev dom is the principal congress and cultural centre of Slovenia.
Each beehive houses a family of 40,000 honeybees. Although it may not be readily apparent, urban environment with its trees, parks and gardens provides profuse bee pasture. Another advantage is that vegetation is not sprayed with insecticides, while exhaust gases do not influence the quality of the produce. In pollinating city plants, urban honeybees also help increase biodiversity. Bees pollinate between 75 and 100 important plant species, thereby enabling fertilization and, consequently, production of honey.
