About Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre (GR)
The Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre (GR) is the largest of its kind in
Slovenia. It houses 20 multifunctional, state of the art halls, able to hold a capacity
from 25 to 5000 people, with an area of 12,000 square metres. Following a complete
renovation of its infrastructure, GR hosted the 13th OSCE ministerial meeting in
2005, with 1,300 people attending the event. Representatives of European
government also selected the venue for the 15th meeting of the ACP-EU joint
parliamentary assembly (2008), which saw representatives of the European
parliament meet up with peers from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.
Supported by the Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council and the European
Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) organised the
2nd Western Balkans Civil Society Forum.
Furthermore, GR is also a popular venue for various international expert meetings, as well as cultural and social events. From 2006 to 2008, GR played host to the Slovene National Opera and Ballet Theatre. His bestseller, An Inconvenient Truth, was presented by Al Gore himself at the charity event for holders of the Diners Club Exclusive credit card (2008), while his predecessors at the said event included Ben Affleck (2007) and Naomi Campbell (2006). Traditionally, GR hosts the oldest international wine tasting competition in the world, Vino Ljubljana (1954 – ). The venue was used as a presentation stage for Nordic architects (2008), including the expert international forum in the fields of medicine and pharmacy DIA – 2nd Clinical Forum Ljubljana (2008). The Conventa Meetings and Incentive Travel show (2009) annually presents the conference services on offer in South-East Europe to over 150 event organisers from all over Europe. The coming years will see GR host at least two major international events: the World Beekeepers Congress and the 7th International Conference on Autoimmunity.
GR is located in the centre of Ljubljana, which spans around the medieval historic centre, wrapped around by the Ljubljanica River, featuring the central castle hill and fort. Safe and enchanting, particularly in the summer months, when its restaurants and bars move their services outdoors. Small and with a personal note, only 10 km from Ljubljana Airport, close to the other natural attractions of Slovenia, which is characterised by its diverse cuisine and friendly people.
