The 22nd international Documentary Film Festival that was hosted by Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre provided full programme amidst the ongoing governmental restrictions.
Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre organised and hosted in mid June the 22nd Documentary Film Festival (FDF) which was originally scheduled for March 2020. FDF this time took place between the 9th and 16th of June 2020. Despite some of the ongoing governmental Corona restrictions, the festival did not change its programme and it, thus, delighted more than 1700 visitors. Each screening allowed for a limited number of visitors per hall what surely made for a unique experience of the popular Documentary Film Festival.
Romanian documentary Collective, directed by Alexander Nanau, was awarded the Amnesty International Slovenia Prize for the best film on human rights. International jury said that the movie is »A first-rate political thriller that through the microcosm of one nation unobtrusievly reflects the ill state in which the whole world is trapped in«. Besides the main prize, the jury also highlighted the film Exemplary Behaviour by directors Audrius Mickevičius and Nerijus Milerius. This documentary film was made in collaboration between Lithuania, Slovenia, Italy, and Bulgaria.
The festival presented 24 movies in five different sections: Competition; Topical, Socially Critical; Intimate & Global Portrayals; Myths, Icons, Media; and Retrospectie: East German Doc. More than 1700 visitors enjoyed the programme of the 22nd FDF which was held in compliance with all governmental instructions and hygiene recommendations for visiting cinemas and theatres. As we have already reported, Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre has been allowed to host meetings again already since the 1st of June 2020.
At the time the the gatherings of up to 200 people were allowed again, while in the meantime also restrictions on 500 people gathered were lifted. Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana was, thus, able to host not just the 22nd Festival of Documentary Film, but also the 61st edition of the Jazz Festival Ljubljana, exhibitions, Club CD’s concerts, and other events, including the Ljubljana Festival which officially opens in the beginning of July.
