Lipica is an important cradle of Lipizzaner horses on a Europe-wide level. Its story began in 1580 on 19 May. This year, it celebrates 440 years of existence.

On 19 May, 440 years ago, the exceptional story of the Lipica Stud Farm and the noble white Lipizzaner horses began. Throughout the years, Lipica strengthened its role as the original stud farm of all Lipizzaners in the world, as well as the role of one of the most prominent tourist destinations and ambassador of Slovenia in the world. Today, there are more than 300 Lipizzaners and more than 300 hectares of green space. Its history began on May 19, 1580, when the Habsburg Archduke Charles II, son of Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg, bought the Lipica estate from the Bishop of Trieste. This day is nowadays considered to be the day of the establishment of the Lipica Stud Farm and the beginning of the breeding of the Lipizzaner horses.

Lipica lies a stone’s throw from the neighbouring Italy and the Adriatic Sea, on a scenic plateau where events can be held in the Hotel Maestoso, in the outdoor shade of mighty trees, or some other of the estate’s many locations. Perhaps you’ll opt for a picnic brunch of choice home delicacies, or lunch in the company of the Lipizzaners served in the stables – a truly unique experience bound to resonate in the memory of your guests. Lipica’s well-tuned hospitality team makes sure each occasion is tailored to the client’s wishes, infused with a culinary experiencepar excellenceand spiced up with the many activities offered by the Lipica Stud Farm and its surroundings.
