The Slovenian capital Ljubljana is among the seven shortlisted cities for the title 2022 European Capital of Smart Tourism. The finalist cities are (listed alphabetically): Bordeaux (France), Copenhagen (Denmark), Dublin (Ireland), Florence (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Palma (Spain), Valencia (Spain). These finalist cities were selected from a total of 30 applications from across 16 countries.
The European Capital of Smart Tourism initiative recognises outstanding achievements by European cities as tourism destinations in four categories: sustainability, accessibility, digitalisation as well as cultural heritage and creativity. This EU initiative aims to promote smart tourism in the EU, network and strengthen destinations, and facilitate the exchange of best practices.
In the next step, all seven shortlisted destinations will be asked to present their candidatures in front of the European Jury. The European Jury will select two winners that will become the European Capitals of Smart Tourism 2022. The winners will be awarded in November 2021.
