Ljubljana Won Another Green Tourism Award

At the travel trade show in Berlin, Slovenia and its two golden destinations from the Green Tourism Scheme, namely, Ljubljana and Podčetrtek received the best sustainable destination award in the category Best Destination of Europe.

The award presented for the first time by the non-profit organization Green Destinations serves as special recognition for outstanding achievements in sustainable tourism. The expert jury comprised of representatives from 12 international organizations selected 32 finalists among 100 most sustainable destinations in 2017, including Slovenia with Ljubljana and Podčetrek. Ten destinations won awards in the categories cites, community and culture, nature, seaside destinations, environment and climate, and the best in individual world regions.

The award, as recognition for best sustainable practice cases in destination management worldwide, was jointly accepted by Rebeka Kumer Bizjak representing the Slovenian Tourist Board and the director of Ljubljana Tourism Petra Stušek, MA.

Ljubljana made it on the list of top 100 sustainable destinations in the world three times already (in 2014, 2016 and 2017), distinguishing itself among award-winning destinations and worldwide. In 2017 Ljubljana was awarded for sustainable tourism development and for attaining the golden certificate in the Slovenia Green assessment scheme.
