Maribor Looking Forward to the Start of the Annual Golden Fox Competition

From 30 to 31 January, Maribor-Pohorje will host already the 52nd Annual Golden Fox competition, a classical women’s competition for the FIS Ski World Cup. A crowd of some 20.000 spectators is expected as well as the visit of the President of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor and a number of important politicians and businessmen.

The Mariborsko Pohorje ski centre boasts the largest number of skiers in Slovenia and the longest downhill night run in Europe. It has also been honoured with the Golden Snowflake Award as the best ski centre in Slovenia. The organisers of the Golden Fox pride themselves on having the least amount of thawing occur at the event. According to all FIS International standards, the organisation of the event is outstanding.

”Snow is of excellent quality, the race could be today already” was very short and on point FIS Snow controller, Filip Gartner. Srečko Vilar, Organizing’s Committee General Secretary, added: “Everything is going on as planned. Of course it’s a bit easier this year because we don’t have problems with snow. We will prepare a top class event at Pohorje foothills and in the city center where Golden Fox’s events will be going on all Friday, 29. January and on Saturday evening when we hope to welcome Ana Drev at award ceremony. For this reason we’re expecting many spectators. Tickets are selling well, there is a lots of interest for the Golden Fox among reporters and guests.”

The large crowds that this competition draws contribute to the race’s worldwide appeal. The spectators’ excitement and cheering on of the competitors achieve in creating an incredible atmosphere around Pohorje. The nearby city centre of Maribor, Slovenia’s second largest city, attracts visitors from near and far alike, increasing the allure of the competition.
