Potica.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Happiness. Mindfulness. All things magic.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Potica is a traditional Slovenian pastry consisting of yeast dough and a filling which is usually made from walnuts. For Slovenes, this&nbsp;<strong>traditional festive pastry<\/strong>&nbsp;symbolizes&nbsp;<strong>wealth<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>prosperity<\/strong>. Nowdays, potica is also a sweet ambassador of Slovenia at various international, cultural, state and sports meetings and events. How about making this sweet delight at home? Check out the <strong>recipe for walnut potica by the millenial foodie<\/strong> from Slovenia!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Dough<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 \u00bd cups milk<\/li><li>\u00bd cup butter<\/li><li>\u00bd cup white sugar<\/li><li>pinch of salt<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>cool to lukewarm and pour into a bowl, then sprinkle on top<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 oz. dry yeast<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>and let stand for 15 minutes, after mix in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 eggs<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>then add and mix in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>flour to make soft dough, approx. 5 cups.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Place the dough in a room temperature buttered bowl, cover it with a linen cloth. Let the dough raise in a lit oven for approx. 1 hour. In the meanwhile, prepare delicious filling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Filling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 pounds fine grinded walnuts<\/li><li>\u00bd cup coarsely grinded walnuts<\/li><li>1 cup powder sugar<\/li><li>1 teaspoon cinnamon<\/li><li>1 teaspoon Bourbon vanilla<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>melt together<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 teaspoons Slovenian honey<\/li><li>1 \u00bc cup milk<\/li><li>5 teaspoons butter<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>mix walnut &amp; honey mixture, then add<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>4 egg yolks beated to soft peak stage<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>after slowly add<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>4 egg whites beated<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Finishing Touch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>3 taspoons powder sugar<\/li><li>10 candied cherries from Vipava Valley<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After 1 hour of rest,&nbsp;beat the dough for 10 minutes or until it separates from the bowl,&nbsp;roll out the dough on well floured linen cloth (\u00bd cm thick) and spread the filling to cover it (optional: sprinkle filling with soaked raisins).&nbsp;Roll tightly and put it in a greased baking mould called&nbsp;<em>poti\u010dnik<\/em>, cover potica and place it ina a protected area for about an hour. Bake at 350 degrees for approx. 35 to 45 minutes and let it cool in mould for 1 hour, afterwards remove potica from mould and place it on racks for additional hour. For a modern twist, a&nbsp;<strong>millennial Slovenian foodie Isa Novak<\/strong>&nbsp;recommends placing candied cherries from&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vipavskadolina.si\/\"><strong>Vipava Valley<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;on top and sprinkle potica with powder sugar.&nbsp;<strong>Decorate, snap &amp; post it on Instagram!<\/strong>&nbsp;\ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Slovenia Meetings Team!<\/em><\/strong> \u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em>P.
