Ljubljana\u2019s ongoing efforts in trying to enhance and expand its tourist offer haven\u2019t been changed by the uncertainty of the past year and a half.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The constant increase of visitor numbers and Slovenia’s Presidency of the EU in the 2nd half of 2021 have spurred recent investments in the hotel sector. In 2021, new boutique and lifestyle hotels have opened, such as Zlata Ladjica<\/a>, Heritage<\/a> and One66<\/a>, many of which are completely refurbished old buildings situated in the Old Town\u2019s top locations. In early spring, Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana MONS<\/a> has reopened its doors after an extensive renovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 2023 approximately 800 new rooms will be added to the city hotel selection, which means the estimated total number of rooms in town will amount to approximately 4.000. By 2024, Ljubljana will also see the construction of a new hall for up to 4000 delegates on the grounds of the GR \u2013 Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre Ljubljana, which will be the largest in our city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A big achievement is also the fact that Ljubljana’s cultural venues portfolio has just been enhanced by the Cukrarna<\/a> – a former 19th<\/sup> century sugar factory turned into a large gallery space and an exclusive special event venue, which has just opened. This multi-purpose historical building with an incredibly rich and oftentimes dramatic past, is now welcoming its first visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is more, it has been recently revealed that Ljubljana\u2019s architectural landmarks designed by the famous architect Jo\u017ee Ple\u010dnik (1872-1957), including the Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), Congress Square (Kongresni trg), and \u017dale Cemetery, have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.<\/a> UNESCO’s decision reaffirms the city’s consistency in trying to bring Ple\u010dnik\u2019s heritage closer to Slovenians, and the international public, as well as to attract potentially new leisure and business visitors with an affinity for cultural heritage and boutique experiences. As 2022 will mark the 150th birth anniversary of Ple\u010dnik, several projects have been underway at Ljubljana Tourism, which aim to promote and digitalize his overarching impact and legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
