Imagine one culture in the world! Every place would seem blandly the same. Without their different cultural heritages, therefore, places around the world would be dull and would have little to offer, today\u2019s meeting planners and delegates crave for <strong>authentic cultural experiences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Language is the cornerstone of Slovenian national identity. Slovenians are proud of their <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slovenia.info\/en\/Culture.htm?kultura=0&amp;lng=2\">culture<\/a> and language<\/strong>, which they regard <strong>as a great asset and part of the national identity<\/strong>. Protestantism laid the <strong>foundations of the Slovenian literary language<\/strong> and brought Slovenes the first printed Slovene-language books <strong><em>Katekizem<\/em><\/strong> (Catechism) and <strong><em>Abecednik<\/em> <\/strong>(Elementary Reader), written by <strong>Primo\u017e Trubar<\/strong> in 1550.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art and culture have always held a special place in the history of the Slovenian nation. Slovenia <\/strong>boasts a rather <strong>well developed network of cultural institutions, organisations and cultural associations<\/strong> comparable to the most developed European countries. There is a rich cultural life not only in the country\u2019s major towns, but in virtually every corner of Slovenia. Just to mention a few \u2013 the <strong><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.filharmonija.si\/eng\">Slovenian Philharmonic<\/a><\/u><\/strong>, one of the oldest orchestras in Europe, with a history of more than 300 years; or the newly restored <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ng-slo.si\/en\/\">National Gallery of Slovenia<\/a><\/strong>, the main art museum in Slovenia containing the largest visual arts collection from the late medieval period to including the twentieth century.<\/p>\n<p>Another important aspect of Slovenian culture are diverse <strong>cultural events<\/strong> which are very well-attended. Slovenia annually hosts <strong>many cultural events<\/strong> that enjoy international recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most notable are the <strong>Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts<\/strong> (which has gained a reputation as one of the greatest European visual art events), the annual <strong>Ljubljana Summer Festival<\/strong>, <strong>Festival Lent in Maribor<\/strong>, the <strong>Liffe<\/strong> film festival, the <strong>Exodos<\/strong> festival of dance arts in Ljubljana, the <strong>Ana Desetnica<\/strong> street theatre gathering, the <strong>PEN Writers\u2019 Meeting<\/strong> in Bled, the <strong>Vilenica Writers\u2019 Meeting<\/strong> in Se\u017eana, and the <strong>Biennial of Industrial Design<\/strong>. Especially important in this respect is the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cd-cc.si\/en\/\">Cankarjev dom<\/a><\/strong> cultural and congress centre in Ljubljana, a member of the network of the most prominent global cultural festivals, which is Slovenia\u2019s window into the world in the field of exchange and cooperation of Slovenian and foreign artists.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>main web portal for culture in Slovenia<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/kulturnik.si\/\"><strong>www.kulturnik.si<\/strong><\/a> features cultural news and events aggregated from various Slovene digital sources and collections related to arts and culture.<\/p>\n<p>Slovenia is an <strong>excitingly colorful country<\/strong>. Throughout its history it has resided at the <strong>crossroads of the Mediterranean, Germanic and Slavic spheres of influence<\/strong>, which left a curious mark on today\u2019s cultural climate of the nation. Even though Slovenia is one of Europe\u2019s smallest countries, it possesses <strong>outstanding traditions in gastronomy and winegrowing<\/strong>, <strong>richly diverse regions<\/strong>, and <strong>folks who are naturally friendly and welcoming<\/strong>.
