Slovenia boasts a surprisingly diverse cultural scene, from urban happenings and traditional presentations, to cosmopolitan festivals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

An important aspect of Slovenian culture are diverse cultural events<\/strong> which are very well-attended. Slovenia annually hosts many cultural events<\/strong> that enjoy international recognition. Among the most notable are the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts<\/strong> (which has gained a reputation as one of the greatest European visual art events), the annual Ljubljana Summer Festival<\/strong>, Festival Lent in Maribor<\/strong>, the Liffe<\/strong> film festival, the Exodos<\/strong> festival of dance arts in Ljubljana, the Ana Desetnica<\/strong> street theatre gathering, the PEN Writers\u2019 Meeting<\/strong> in Bled, the Vilenica Writers\u2019 Meeting<\/strong> in Se\u017eana, and the Biennial of Industrial Design<\/strong>. Especially important in this respect is the Cankarjev dom<\/a> cultural and congress centre in Ljubljana, a member of the network of the most prominent global cultural festivals, which is Slovenia\u2019s window into the world in the field of exchange and cooperation of Slovenian and foreign artists.<\/p>\n

Each summer, the city life of Ljubljana<\/strong> is livened up by numerous festivals and most of them are open-air. The city centre festival season traditionally starts in June with the Ljubljana festival<\/strong> and ends with Nights in Ljubljana Old Town<\/strong> at the end of August. Throughout the summer, Maribor<\/strong> and\u00a0its\u00a0surroundings host\u00a0numerous\u00a0cultural, sport and culinary events, there truly is something for everyone.\u00a0One of the most recognizable events that Maribor is definitely the biggest Slovenian open-air festival\u00a0Lent<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0brings many local and international guests to the city.\u00a0<\/strong>Festival\u2019s\u00a0diverse vibe is reflecting in sounds, colours and tastes.\u00a0It takes place all around the city \u2013\u00a0squares, parks, streets and by the Drava river bank.<\/p>\n

The main web portal for culture in Slovenia<\/strong> www.kulturnik.si<\/a> features cultural news and events aggregated from various Slovene digital sources and collections related to arts and culture.<\/p>\n

Since 2013, Odprta kuhna <\/strong>(Open Kitchen)<\/em> is the most popular food market in Slovenia. Every sunny Friday from early spring to late fall its stands attract thousands of foodies and fans of relaxed hanging-out. Odprta kuhna is occasionally hosted also in other Slovenian towns, such as Celje,\u00a0 Koper and Nova Gorica.<\/p>\n

Slovenia hosts major sports events<\/strong> with top competitors from around the world. Recreational sports enthusiasts also have many events to choose from, such as walks, marathons and biking marathons.<\/p>\n

During a course of a year, Slovenia hosts events of all kinds, from concerts and festivals, to sports & recreational events, to ethnological and culinary events. There is literally something to suit everyone\u2019s taste!<\/p>\n
