{"id":6046,"date":"2016-11-09T08:44:37","date_gmt":"2016-11-09T08:44:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.slovenia-convention.com\/?p=6046"},"modified":"2016-11-09T08:44:37","modified_gmt":"2016-11-09T08:44:37","slug":"eurocities-environment-forum-ljubljana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.slovenia-convention.com\/sl\/eurocities-environment-forum-ljubljana\/","title":{"rendered":"Ljubljana Hosted EUROCITIES Environment Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From 19 until 21 October 2016, the EUROCITIES Environment Forum was held in Ljubljana, attended by some 115 experts in the field of water, waste, energy efficiency, climate change, biodiversity, green surfaces and air quality. Within the framework of the event the City of Ljubljana prepared an exhibition presenting the results of the pilot project for processing Japanese knotweed into paper at a semi-industrial level.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For two years already the City of <strong>Ljubljana<\/strong> is offering free disposal of removed <strong>Japanese<\/strong> knotweed at its collection centres, and from there it is transferred to the incinerator. The pilot project for manufacturing paper from Japanese knotweed is an opportunity to find innovative solutions to deal with this invasive plant and its further uses, and is one of the circular economy practices in the City of Ljubljana.<\/p>\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row td-pb-row\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container td-pb-span12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>Within the scope of the title <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenljubljana.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>European Green Capital 2016<\/strong><\/a>, a series of voluntary Japanese knotweed removal actions was organised during which the participants collected as much as 1,520 kg of knotweed, later on processed into 415 kg of paper. The production of paper from Japanese knotweed at a semi-industrial level is in itself a remarkable achievement, and an even bigger one is the production of useful items from this paper \u2013 notebooks and paper bags designed by the <strong>Re-generacija collective<\/strong> (Re-generation).<br \/>\nPartners of the Japanese knotweed processing pilot project are the City of Ljubljana, Pulp and Paper Institute, public waste management company Snaga, University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana and the Re-generacija collective.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row td-pb-row\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container td-pb-span12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The <strong>EUROCITIES<\/strong> network of cities was founded in 1986 by the mayors of six large cities \u2013 Barcelona, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Lyon, Milano in Rotterdam \u2013 and now there are over 130 biggest European cities and 40 partner cities in the network with over 130 million residents.
