Sustainability is a topic of immense importance nowadays and something which should be taken into consideration when it comes to organizing meetings, events and incentives. The Slovenian Convention Bureau and its partners are aware of the environmental problems and therefore, take steps against them – with a variety of initiatives.

The tmf dialogue marketing has been presenting the Slovenian CVB and its partners since the beginning of this year and many subjects regarding their sustainable initiatives in 2015 have been discussed so far.

In March, Ljubljana was nominated for the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Award in the category “Destination”. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) awards those tourism destination organisations which showcase the commitment to supporting and delivering sustainable tourism best practices in their destinations. The Slovenian city finally won and was awarded at the WTTC global summit on 15 and 16 April 2015 in Madrid. The reason for the prize: “Ljubljana has been completely redesigned with sustainability in mind in the recent years.” Ljubljana

Sustainabiliy in mind had the organizers of the Lepton Photon Congress that took place in August at GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre. Each congress participant got a free glass bottle. The idea behind that: if you drink water from a bottle, you can refill it and thus, prevent unnecessary waste production.

Being European Green Capital in 2016, Ljubljana continuously practices sustainability in the city and offers and promotes healthy and sustainable activities for meetings. During the medical congress ESRA in September, Ljubljana followed the motto “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body”: ESRA delegates participated in an early morning run in the Trivoli Park, boosting their energy levels before the meetings.

Other great projects that definitely need to be mentioned, are Union Hotel’s initiatives for sustainable activities. The hotel guests are offered “Healthy Food for a Good Mood”, healthy and green food made from local produce. Guests can also use the hotel’s electric scooters which have a reduced environmental impact.

And not to forget, the Slovenian Convention Bureau’s partners who offer in their hotels a lot of sustainable, healthy programms.

At Conventa 2016, sustainability also plays an important role. The organizers follow the aim to reduce a negative environmental impact of the show. Thus, they introduced sustainable guidelines which consist of 15 practices. Conventa participants are asked to take at least 3 of these actions. Moreover, Slovenian Convention Bureau published the brochure “Road to Green Meetings in Slovenia” with a lot of facts and ideas on how you can make your own meetings greener.
