Portorož Marks 140 Years of Tourism
This year, Portorož proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone – 140 years of tourism. What began as a modest spa with just 10 rooms has grown into one of Slovenia’s and the Adriatic’s most iconic destinations, renowned for wellness, leisure, and Mediterranean charm.

The story began in 1885, when Piran physician Giovanni Lugnani transformed part of a local chemical factory into a thermal spa, laying the foundation for Portorož as a top-quality health and leisure resort. By 1897, Portorož was officially recognized as a spa town, spurring further development and attracting international visitors.
