The year 2016 is a special year for Ljubljana. It is holding the elite title of European Green Capital 2016 and was named UNESCO City of Literature. Among others, the world-famous media Rough Guides and The Guardian included Ljubljana on their list of TOP destinations in 2016.
Ljubljana has been captivating more and more visitors and editors of foreign media. Rough Guides, an internationally recognized travel content provider and a publisher of guidebooks from UK, has published a list of the most desirable holiday destinations for 2016. Ljubljana took the 4th place just after Reykjavík, Mexico City and Seoul.
The editors Rough Guides describe Ljubljana as: “Winning the well-deserved accolade of European Green Capital of 2016, the elegant Slovenian capital boasts a wealth of green spaces. If you’re feeling green yourself, the car-free centre is perfect to explore by bicycle, or else you can navigate a stand-up paddleboard along the gorgeously green Ljubljanica river that flows through the centre. Low prices mean you can find brilliant budget food and accommodation options without compromising on quality, plus it’s just a hop to the country’s stunning mountains, vineyards and beaches.”
The capital fascinated also the editors of The Guardian, who put it among the best holiday destinations for 2016. But Ljubljana is much more than a green city; it is the UNESCO City of Literature and the only town awarded twice for European Mobility Week.
