At the World Travel & Tourism Council global summit, Ljubljana just won the Tourism for Tomorrow Destination Award for 2015. Ljubljana was awarded with the highest accolade for sustainability in the global travel industry for delivering sustainable tourism best practices. On a similar note, Ljubljana received the prestigious title of the European Green Capital 2016.
“We are all looking for ‘new’ destinations for our clients and this is it! Ljubljana works really well as either a meeting destination or for incentives, with food and drink being a joy to explore throughout the many outlets and venues around the city. The city, being small, safe and compact lends itself well to a 2 or 3 night incentive, easy to navigate either by walking or bicycle and with plenty to see and do along with some very grand and very chic hotels to rest your head,” commented Nick Wilson, MD at Creative Travel & Event Management, after his visit to Slovenia. “The most important point is that – once you are there – you are surprised by the city and the people living there, because you had no idea of what Ljubljana would look and feel like. The capital of Ljubljana is located near the Alps, near beautiful locations like Lake Bled and you can even be at the Slovenian Coast within two hours. This allows you to develop diverse programs and that is what it is about,” added Tim Vormweg, Senior Creative at White Label Events GmbH.
Indeed Ljubljana and Slovenia are ideal destinations for organising (sustainable) meetings and events. If you wish to include sustainable activities into your incentive and corporate meeting programs, Intours DMC suggests the Ljubljana Sports Championship. The Sports Championship challenges the participants to hike in the well-preserved natural greenery, cycle around the capital as well as experience whitewater kayaking and stand-up paddling right in the middle of the capital.
