With specific local culinary offer which is on integrated and sustainable way reviving the local environment and thereby increasing the number of visitors, this year applied 11 Slovenian tourist destinations.
The expert commission did not have an easy job. In the finale was ranked five destinations, which according to the President prof. dr. Janez Bogataj were not a surprise, as they reflect the real situation in the field of gastronomy in Slovenia.
After carefully evaluation of each destination (Radol’ca, Kras, Dobrote Dolenjske and Bohinj), the commission awarded Goriška Brda.
The winning destination obtains the title Brda, European Destination of Excellence 2015 and thereby joins its predecessors, Soča Valley, Solčavsko, Kolpa River, Idrija an Laško.
“The winning destination Goriška Brda is a prominent culinary and gastronomic destination, where the main and only tourist motive and content of the offer are exclusively related with gastronomy. They understand the role and importance of culinary and gastronomic heritage, which can be the foundation of modern, creative and innovative recognisability” said Slovenian Tourist Board.
All five finalists will be presented in Europe as examples of best practices from both the Slovenian Tourist Board and European Commission though a number of marketing communication channels, and will become members of the European Network of EDEN with the possibility of joining the European association EDEN.
