A mini-boom of new boutique hotels in Ljubljana

Recently, Ljubljana is going through a mini-boom of new boutique hotels many of which are converted old buildings. Many of these hotel projects are converting historic buildings to be used as boutique hotels while retaining significant historic and architectural elements. A great example of a new boutique hotel is Zlata ladjica (engl. Golden Boat), the legendary star location of the Slovenian capital. The investors have created a concept that does not yet exist in Ljubljana, including a gastropub, café, fine dining restaurant, and a private wellness centre. They expect the most demanding guests who prefer a boutique hotel experience with complete comfort in a strict historic centre over staying in larger hotels. Zlata ladjica will welcome its first guests in the summer of 2021.

In the near future, Ljubljana will get also a 4-star design hotel Barceló, situated near the historical part of the city and only a stone’s throw way from Cankarjev Dom, one of Slovenia’s largest convention centres. The 151 rooms and 2 meeting rooms spanning 30 and 40 square metres, respectively in the 4-star property will be an ideal base for conferences and events in the Slovenian capital. The opening is scheduled for spring 2022.

The rebirth of four legendary Alpine hotels

Another great story, set under the mighty peaks of the Julian Alps, is the rebirth of four once-legendary hotels in Bohinj that were bought by the wealthiest Slovenian millennial Damian Merlak, who has made more than 100 million euro with the sale of Bitstamp, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. While Triglav Aparthotel has already been completely renovated – the hotel now offers 27 bright, functional and modern apartments – the other hotels (Zlatorog, Bohinj and Ski Vogel Hotels) are still under construction. The owners aim to restore their old glory and attract visitors who know how to appreciate luxury in unspoilt nature. The opening of the Bohinj Hotel is planned for 2021.

Compliments, joy and excitement are frequent pleasures of an event staged in a distinctive setting – like Cukrarna, a major new venue in Ljubljana. Ljubljana, which has in the recent decade undergone a significant transformation, will further grow with this upgrade promoting the expansion of the urban centre eastwards, adding potential to the surrounding community. The new site is joining the lively range of existing special venues, promising to offer a delightful, cultured event setting. In 2022, Ljubljana is set to receive its biggest arts gallery yet, stretching across 2500 square metres and accommodating up to 400 attendees; offering a modern setting suitable for highly demanding international exhibition projects. The new multi-purpose cultural venue will also be dedicated to MICE and education activities. At the same time, it will facilitate even stronger cooperation with foreign partners, with the goal of realizing major shared projects that have thus far not been possible due to insufficient capacities.
