The year 2017 just became a record year at the Ljubljana Airport with the highest number of passengers in history. Yesterday, on 27 December, with 1,676,032 passengers we exceeded the previous record from 2008. Which means that including 27 December, 2,650 passengers more visited the airport than in whole 2008, which ended with total of 1,673,382 passengers. The final record number of passengers in 2017 will be known at the beginning of the new year. 2017 is marked by strong traffic growth throughout the year. We expect that in comparison with 2016, growth will amount to 20.1 percent.

The increase in traffic stems above all from the consolidation of our flight network last year and this year, resulting in more competitive services that are seeing passengers increasingly frequently choosing Ljubljana Airport for direct flights to nearby destinations but also for flights to more remote destinations that are accessible via the major European hubs. A further contribution to growth comes from an increase in both domestic and foreign carrier traffic, the favourable economic climate and Slovenia’s growing popularity as a tourist destination.

This is the third record set last year. The first two new traffic records were achieved in September, when the highest monthly number of passengers was recorded of all previous Septembers and the largest number of daily passengers was also recorded (on 17 September).

A slight slowing in traffic growth is expected in 2018, which cannot be said for the development of the airport. Fraport Slovenija started the expansion of the existing passenger terminal, the new airport bypass project is nearing completion, this year will see the start of several other important projects in the business and logistics zones, among which will probably be a training centre for the Fraport Aviation Academy. The complete overhaul of the airport information system is continuing. Once finished, this will increase the speed, quality and efficiency of our services. Adria has announced six new destinations in its summer timetable: Geneva, Sofia, Bucharest, Hamburg, Dubrovnik and Brač. Fraport Slovenija is also in constant talks with many other airlines about potential new services.
