Cankarjev dom at the peak of the congress season

In spring 2026, Cankarjev dom hosted two major international congresses whose scale and programme complexity required a high degree of organisational and spatial adaptability.

EMIM 2026 (24–27 March 2026), marking the 21st anniversary of the European Society for Molecular Imaging, featured a highly structured programme comprising 74 oral sessions, 30 parallel tracks, 9 plenary lectures and 424 poster presentations. Over four days, the congress included 345 talks, with 124 session chairs and nearly 900 reviewers involved. Such a structure requires a venue capable of accommodating multiple concurrent streams while ensuring effective links between lecture halls and exhibition areas.

ESC Preventive Cardiology 2026 (23–25 April 2026) brought around 1,400 experts to Ljubljana, continuing a successful collaboration with the European Society of Cardiology following EuroPrevent 2018, previously hosted at Cankarjev dom. The programme combined everyday clinical practice with forward-looking approaches to prevention. Cardiovascular diseases affect approximately 60 million people in the European Union, with an estimated annual cost of €282 billion, accounting for one third of all deaths.

The programme continues throughout the year with a diverse range of events reflecting key contemporary challenges. THERMAG XI 2026 (7–11 June) focuses on advanced materials and energy, while BCRRA 2026 (22–24 June) brings together experts in the design, construction and management of transport infrastructure that underpins everyday mobility. FOODMicro2026 (7–10 September) highlights hygiene as a foundation of safe and sustainable food systems in the context of increasingly complex global supply chains.

The diversity of topics and formats calls for a flexible and responsive venue – qualities that define Cankarjev dom and are further recognised by the Conventa Meetings Awards 2026 for Best Congress Venue in Slovenia.
