More than 300 companies from 24 countries, more than 40,000 visitors and over 9,800 m2 of exhibition space – these are the impressive figures of Home Fair, the region’s largest construction fair. The event took place at the beginning of March at the GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The Home Fair is the largest specialised international event of its kind in the region, dedicated to all those with an interest in the construction industry, whether for business or private use. The event showcased advanced system solutions, new technologies, energy-efficient innovations, innovations and trends, and environmental protection methods in the construction industry.
In addition to the range of services and products on offer (from prefabricated houses to switches, architectural furniture and insulation materials, roofing, heating and cooling technology, interior furnishings, floor coverings and security and landscaping), the fair also included a programme aimed at construction professionals. The programme was curated by the organisers in cooperation with the most renowned institutions in the construction sector: the ZRMK, ENSVET – EcoFund Network, the Spirit public agency and the Association of the Wood and Furniture Industry at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia. Consumers were also offered reliable and objective advice from experienced experts.
Focus on efficient energy use and renewable energy
The focal point of this year’s event was the construction and renovation of buildings and using environment-friendly energy sources for their operation. Visitors could learn about the efficient use of energy and renewable energy sources.
Another key topic was the use of wood as a material of the future. Concurrently with the fair, the organisers hosted the annual Slovenian Woodworking Days, the central professional event of the Slovenian wood industry. Expert speakers presented best-case examples of the development of new wood materials and the innovative use of wood in the construction and renovation of buildings. They also touched on the challenges in light of the transition to a circular economy and adaptation to the effects of climate change. Sustainable solutions that were propelled by Slovenian know-how were awarded at the fair with the Quality Mark in Construction.
Sustainable mobility during the event
Given GR is situated in the heart of Ljubljana, the organisers had to go the extra mile to ensure flawless logistics. Visitors were informed and encouraged to use the most sustainable method of transport to the fair. In cooperation with Ljubjana’s public transport company LPP, visitors who attended the event were provided with free transport on city buses and affordable parking rates.
The exhibitor stands are still being dismantled at the time of publishing. Once the dismantling is complete, over 70 trees and shrubs will be planted in the green courtyard in honour of the 70th anniversary of the GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre. The venue will thus contribute to the sustainable aspirations of the event.
