Not only that Ljubljana won the European Best Destination 2022 competition, it won it with the highest number of votes outside its borders in the entire history of this competition, which shows that Ljubljana is a favourite to many.
Ljubljana won with the highest number of votes outside its borders since the creation of the competition in 2009.
Over half a million of travellers from 182 countries have voted for the European Best Destinations 2022. And we are thrilled to announce that the winner is Ljubljana. In the description, the organisers wrote: “Ljubljana is a city for curious and adventurous souls. The city is a treasure trove of exciting secrets and natural joys. The proud green capital of Slovenia invites all vagabonds who are hungry for culture, art, entertainment, and large green areas, which provide a relaxed atmosphere.”
With 56% of votes from Europe and 44% from elsewhere, Ljubljana is the preferred destination of American, Italian, German, Austrian and Croatian travellers. Not only that Ljubljana won the European Best Destination 2022 competition, it won it with the highest number of votes outside its borders in the entire history of this competition.
From 20 January to 10 February 2022, people from all over the world had a chance to vote for one of the 20 destinations shortlisted for the European Best Destination 2022. Next to Ljubljana, the list included Amalfi Coast, Amiens, Athens, Bavaria, Clonakilty, Crete, Graz, Istanbul, Lahti Region, Leuven, London, Lucerne, Marbella, Nijmegen, Oradea, Plovdiv, Prague, Rome and Vienna. The competition is annually organised by EuropeanBestDestinations.com in partnership with the European Commission’s EDEN network and media partners Forbes US and Condé Nast Travelers.
