Slovenia’s Capital a finalist for the Travel & Tourism’s highest accolade.

Slovenian capital has recently been announced as one of the shortlisted candidates for the prestigious International Travel & Tourism Awards in the category of the Best Food Destination 2019. The International Travel & Tourism Awards (ITTA), presented by WTM London, celebrate the success of national, regional and city tourist boards and recognize outstanding private sector companies and individuals.

The Best Food Destination award recognizes and rewards the destinations (and businesses) that have spent time supporting and promoting food within the destination, through imaginative marketing and PR campaigns, as well as offering a consistently unique and memorable experience for visitors. The mark of a desirable culinary destination is a place where good quality, and consistently unique and memorable, food and drink products and experiences take place.

jubljana was listed with its Green Supply Chains by Ljubljana Tourism. The explanation for the shortlisted Ljubljana Tourism’s project says: “By creating the umbrella project Green Supply Chains and three sub-projects: Locally Grown Food Exchange, Culinary Calendar and Ljubljana Breakfast, Ljubljana Tourism as a DMO has managed to increase quantities of locally sourced ingredients in hotels and restaurants in the city and answer the needs of modern tourists seeking local, authentic and sustainable gastronomic experiences. At the same time Ljubljana Tourism began building their competitive advantage on locally grown food, showcasing their awareness of the importance of local sourcing, creation of local jobs, reduction of carbon footprint and minimization of environmental pressures.”

Organised by WTM London, along with an independent panel of expert judges, the 15 awards showcase the best in class of the global travel & tourism industry, in front of an audience of 500+ leading industry figures, including government ministers. ITTA shine a spotlight on exceptional individuals and businesses that have made incredible contributions to the global travel industry. The winners will be announced at the brand-new Magazine London.

Ljubljana is not a novelty on the culinary map of the world what also contributes to its congress tourism. In March it hosted incredibly successful culinary revolution through the first ever European Food Summit, the largest food event in the region. And in 2021, Ljubljana will be one of the culinary hubs as that year Slovenia will be an active holder of the prestigious title European Region of Gastronomy 2021.
