From 2011 on when the Slovenian lace-makers won the bid for the 17th OIDFA World Lace Congress and General Assembly, a team of 12 ladies, members of the organizing committee together with the PCO – Go.Mice and GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre as a venue, were carefully planning all the details to set-up the challenging congress, which at the end gathered 520 registered participants, 114 exhibitors and more than 1.800 daily visitors.
At the beginning of summer season 2016, GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre celebrated the art of lacemaking, as they hosted the 17th World Lace Congress OIDFA — the international organization for bobbin and needle lace.
Once again GR proved to be the perfect venue and host for any type of event and one of the few ones in Ljubljana that can host an event of such size. Spacious courtyard with the fountain in the middle of GR was a nice meeting point for lace makers after attending the lectures and visiting the exhibitions in the premises of GR.
OIDFA 2016 HIGHLIGHTS:
- Lace fashion show at the GR, presenting renowned Slovenian fashion designers and students of fashion design with evening creations including Idrija Lace.
- National lace exhibition presenting lace from 26 countries of the world.
- Mega lace event on the streets of Ljubljana with more than 600 lacemakers from all over the world.
