The end of the year is a perfect time to reflect, take stock of the year past, and plan for the year ahead. This year, Ljubljana’s CD – Cultural and Congress Centre hosted compelling collection of high-profile scientific and professional meetings. Hereby, we are remembering some of those that stood out the most in the Cankarjev dom Congress Department’s year 2019.

ESSM IN FEBRUARY

Cankarjev dom – CD Cultural and Congress Centre’s 2019 congress year kicked off with a large-scale event – the 21st ESSM the (Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine). The ESSM attracted over a thousand specialists from around the globe. Ms. Gabrijela Simetinger from organizational team SSMS noted that the team decided for Cankarjev dom as the venue for being »the only institution in Slovenia which meets the requirements for hosting such a big congress and we also know that it does not disappoint.«

WCF IN APRIL

The World Construction Forum, important industry’s world event, had brought to Cankarjev dom more than 500 experts from around the world to discuss individual topics inside the overall theme ‘Buildings and Infrastructure Resilience from Climate Changes to Disaster Risk and Facility Management’. Among participants there were engineers and architects, policy makers from administration bodies of all levels, researchers and scientists, university professors and students, construction industry representatives, developers and investors.

EUROPD IN MAY

In May, more than 400 delegates arrived in Ljubljana to the 14th EuroPD (European Peritoneal Dialysis) Meeting. Experts from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, UK, and USA discussed latest discoveries, case studies, and troubleshooting. The three-day event included also a symposium and an exhibition of posters. The events took place in the Grand Reception Hall, the Foyers, the Linhart Hall, and the Kosovel Hall of Cankarjev dom.

HOPE AGORA IN JUNE

HOPE Agora gathering, organised by HOPE – European Hospital and Healthcare Federation, gathered in early June around 300 international delegates who focused on “Evidence-informed decision-making in healthcare management”Simon Vrhunec, HOPE Governor for Slovenia noted that “the exchange of good practice is of great value since it offers the potential to foster progress.” For three days, Cankarjev dom was yet again the hub of scientific meeting related to questions of medicine and health.

ESVM IN OCTOBER

In mid-October, Cankarjev dom hosted the regular annual meeting of three most important international organizations in the field of vascular diseases: ESVM – European Society for Vascular Medicine, IUA – International Union for Angiology, and CEVF – Central European Vascular Forum. The congress was attended by 400 international experts. As this meeting is considered to be the most important European vascular meeting in 2019, the meeting included pharmaceutical as well as medical technology companies.

ECSP IN OCTOBER

In late October 2019, the 48th Symposium of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP) was titled »The Digital Revolution: Supporting clinical pharmacy through e-health, digital support systems, big data and more.« ESCP is the international leader in advancing quality and innovation in clinical pharmacy and it annually organizes its symposium or conference. The 48th conference that took place in the halls of Cankarjev dom gathered more than 500 international scientists and practitioners to discuss current issues and development in clinical pharmacy.
