Record-Breaking Results for Slovenian Tourism

Our green, active and healthy land is on the brink of new tourist records. In June 2017, more than 1.2 million tourist overnight stays were recorded, which represents 22% more than in June 2016. This means Slovenia had more than 487,000 arrivals or 27% more than last year. From the start of 2017 and up to the end of June, almost 5 million overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodation in Slovenia, which is 12% more than last year.

In June 2017, more than 487,000 tourist arrivals were recorded, of which foreign tourists generated almost 365,000, a 32% increase compared to June 2016. Domestic tourists generated more than 122,000 arrivals, which is a 14% increase compared to last year.
Tourists also generated almost 1.2 million overnight stays, 22% more than in June 2016, of which foreign tourists generated almost 840,000 overnight stays or 29% more than last year. On the other hand, domestic tourists generated 10% more overnight stays (more than 359,000).

In the sixth month of the year, almost 682,000, or 57% of all tourist overnight stays, were recorded in hotels, 18% in campsites, 6% in private accommodation (rented rooms and dwellings), 5% in apartment settlements, 4% in company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for young people, and 3% in youth hostels.

The key markets, which brought the most overnight stays by foreign tourists, were Germany (more than 139,000 or 17%), Austria (11%), Italy (10%), the United Kingdom and the Netherlands (5% each) and the Russian Federation(4%).

Nearing 5 million tourist overnight stays in the first 6 months

From the start of 2017 and up to the end of June, 4,794,000 overnight stays were recorded in tourist accommodation in Slovenia. An increase in overnight stays was noted for both foreign and domestic tourists; foreign tourists generated 64% of all tourist overnight stays (or more than 3 million), which is 17% more than last year, and more than 1.3 million arrivals (32% more). Domestic tourists generated 1.7 million overnight stays (5% more) and more than 610,000 arrivals (14% more) than in the same period last year.
