Summer Cultural Highlights in Ljubljana

Each year in the summer, Ljubljana comes alive with numerous festivals, most of them taking place in the open air. The city centre festival season traditionally starts with the June in Ljubljana festival and ends with Nights in Ljubljana Old Town at the end of August. Ljubljana Festival

The Ljubljana Festival, with its long history and tradition of presenting premier artistic events, contributes significantly to the cultural life of Ljubljana in the summer. The festival’s rich programme of concert, opera, and ballet events features internationally renowned artists, including some of the world’s most recognised names in music and performing arts.

Ljubljana Jazz Festival

Do you like jazz? Here’s something for you! The Ljubljana Jazz Festival features some of the world’s biggest names in jazz, attracting music lovers from home and abroad and it will take place at five in and outdoor stages of CD Congress Centre Ljubljana. Beside concerts this year’s festival offers also a rich accompanying program – lectures, an exhibition, a guided tour, a Library Beneath the Trees and a workshop for children. An interesting fact: The Ljubljana Jazz Festival is the oldest European jazz festival (57th edition).

Street Theatre Festival Ana Desetnica

Kids and grownups – we all love four days when Ana Desetnica is in town because she always brings so much joy and laughter! The vibrant Ana Desetnica international street theatre festival will bring together a large number of street artistes, clowns, circus performers, jugglers, tightrope walkers, fire-eaters, musicians, “provocateurs”, dancers and actors from Slovenia and abroad. They will turn the whole city centre into a stage! You have to see and experience this! And don’t be surprised, if you’ll played a part in any of the performances.

30 June – 3 July at various outdoor venues in Ljubljana

Urbano dejanje – UD

The Urbano dejanje festival is quite new festival and it attempts to integrate diversity into an innovative, youthful and accessible way. The festival will present the music, culture, art and sports elements of urban culture in Ljubljana.

8 – 14 August at Tobačna factory

Young Lions

Each year at the end of August, the young lions of contemporary performing arts get together in Ljubljana to present their work at the Young Lions festival. Apart from showcasing daring approaches to contemporary theatre and dance, the festival offers an opportunity for socializing in the city’s public spaces and is an open platform for exchanging ideas, building friendships, and starting collaborations. The Festival has a distinctive atmosphere, marked with creativity and vibrant spirit, curious audience and social nature.

18 – 28 August at Elektro Ljubljana’s Old Power Station and other venues

Nights in Ljubljana Old Town

Nights in Ljubljana Old Town will symbolically concluding Ljubljana’s summer event season. Traditionally, it features outdoor concerts accompanied by a diverse mixture of other cultural and entertainment events taking place in the streets and squares of the old part of the city centre.

25 – 27 August in the old city centre
